Ce site rassemble des témoignages d’acteurs ayant contribué, à divers titres, à la normalisation et au développement du système de télécommunications mobiles GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), qui permet à plus de cinq milliards de terriens de communiquer à distance en 2020, alors que 0,32% des Africains disposaient du téléphone en 1990.
De même que l’invention de l’imprimerie par Johannes Gutenberg à Mayence en 1450 a facilité grandement la circulation des idées en Occident, l’essor fulgurant de la numérisation a participé au basculement du monde dans un mouvement irréversible de globalisation culturelle, politique et économique, à partir de la fin du XXe siècle.
Nous essayerons d’éclairer ici, par des récits de parcours personnels et collectifs, quelles valeurs et convictions permettent d’espérer que l’infrastructure vitale des télécommunications et de l’informatique puisse aider à cultiver des liens.

History and future perspectives of GSM
This site brings together the testimonies of players who have contributed, in various capacities, to the standardization and development of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) mobile telecommunications system, which will enable more than five billion people on earth to communicate remotely by 2020, whereas 0.32% of Africans had a telephone in 1990.
Just as Johannes Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press in Mainz in 1450 greatly facilitated the circulation of ideas in the West, the meteoric rise of digitization has contributed to the world’s irreversible move towards cultural, political and economic globalization since the end of the 20th century.
Through the stories of personal and collective journeys, we attempt to shed light on the values and convictions that give us hope that the vital infrastructure of telecommunications and information technology can help cultivate links.
